At the 13th CANSO AGM & CEO Conference in San Diego today, Alexander ter Kuile announced his intention to step down as Secretary General of CANSO on completion of his third term in office at the end of this year.
On the opening day of the Conference Mr. ter Kuile informed the members of his decision not to renew his contract, stating that it had been a tough decision because he still saw clear potential for further growth and programme expansion of the Association. However, he clarified that after nine years at the helm of CANSO, it was time for new and fresh leadership to take the organisation to that next level of development.
He continued by stating that he had truly enjoyed working with the CANSO members to build the organisation into a respected global trade association for the worlds Air Navigation Service Providers, and he believes huge progress has been made in the delivery of a more customer and performance focused ATM sector.
CANSO Chairman Ashley Smout said:
Alexander has made an unparalleled contribution to CANSO, and his departure will leave a huge gap. But thanks to his tireless efforts the Association has never been stronger, and we will continue to build on his excellent work. We will be very sorry to see him leave in December, but we respect his decision and wish him well.
In January 2001, Alexander started as the first full-time Secretary General of CANSO. Over the past nine years the organisation has established itself as a highly effective global platform dedicated to the harmonisation of the Air Traffic Management sector.
