NAV CANADA announces new air traffic control services for Fredericton Airport

 NAV CANADA, the nationwide provider of air navigation services, proposes to convert the Flight Service Station (FSS) at the Fredericton Airport into an Air Traffic Control Tower. |
This decision follows the completion of a study and consultations launched in early May to evaluate the air navigation service requirements of the Fredericton Airport in light of a marked increase in traffic.
We had made several changes to the way Flight Service Specialists provide services to keep up with the increase in traffic and they are to be commended for their dedication to safety as the traffic has grown and become more complex, said Rudy Kellar, Vice-President of Operations. However, to manage the increasing traffic growth, we now propose to transition from Airport Advisory Service to Airport Control Service during the busy traffic periods.
NAV CANADA will now consult with affected users before proceeding with the transition.
The Fredericton Airport is currently served by a Flight Service Station which is designed to facilitate the safe and efficient movement of airport traffic at moderate air traffic levels through the provision of Airport Advisory Service. It is proposed that the new Airport Control Service be phased-in, beginning on December 17, 2009.
