4-Flight : Delivered to two French En-route Centers

- Paris, France

DSNA, the French ANSP, and Thales, world leader in air traffic management (ATM) solutions, are proud to announce that the 4-Flight project, a new generation ATM system, has achieved a key 2013 milestone.

At the DSNA stand, French ATCOs presented 4-Flight in front of a large international audience. 4-Flight, the most innovative ATM system in Europe, is based on open architecture incorporating advanced interoperability standards. It integrates Coflight, the new Flight Data Processing System, which is ready for i4D and a business trajectory. 4-Flight also integrates Java HMI, an innovative system designed from ergonomic studies, and advanced ATC tools in an electronic environment.

DSNA and Thales have set up an integrated team, involving operational and technical staff from both organizations, to carry out extensive field tests and use the results to improve the system.

By mid-2014, an initial operational system will be delivered in two pilot Centers (ACCs), Reims and Aix. In the winter of 2016/2017, the first version (VOps) will be put into operation. Subsequently, the 4-Flight system will be deployed in the other 3 ACCs (Paris, Bordeaux, Brest) and in Paris Terminal Approaches by 2020.

According to Maurice Georges, DSNA CEO, « Our operational teams are very motivated and working hard in providing their expertise to define and validate this future ATM system which will garantee the highest level of performance for our airspace users and customers. We are confident that 4-Flight will be a key element in the successful implementation of the SESAR baseline system and its requirements. »

Commenting on this collaboration, Guy Delevacque, Thales Vice-President Land and Air Systems, said: “DSNA and Thales continue to progress on the 4-Flight programme. This latest milestone is proof of the strength our partnership and our efforts in seeing this crucial project to its completion".
