FREQUENTIS to provide service and maintenance for all Schmid Telecom VCS systems in Finland

- Austria, Vienna.

Air Navigation Services Finland Oy awards FREQUENTIS with service and maintenance contract for Schmid Telecom ICS 200/60 VCS systems

Frequentis will service and maintain the ICS 200/60 VCS systems of the bankrupt Schmid Telecom AG at two area control centres, 16 TWRs and the Avia College.  This contract award reinforces Frequentis’ market-leading position in the ATM domain, through its VCS capabilities and in-house experience with VCS systems from bankrupt Schmid Telecom AG.  Smooth migration, extension and system upgrade scenarios can also be offered.

The bankruptcy of Schmid Telecom AG put Air Navigation Services Finland Oy as well as many ANSPs worldwide in a tough situation to complete previously awarded mission critical Voice Communication Systems on time. Thanks to Frequentis’ experience and expertise, the maintenance service for existing systems was able to continue to ensure safe operation.

The service agreement consists of helpdesk support, backed up with multiple ex-Schmid Telecom System Engineers now working for Frequentis to ensure availability and an immediate response. On-site support and yearly health checks, as well as hardware support complete the support package.

“We found Frequentis to be the most feasible company on the market able to ensure support for the existing Schmid Telecom ICS 200/60 systems, while meeting our response and quality criteria. We are pleased that we could mitigate our risk and keep the systems in operation, while allowing us time to prepare our strategy for the future”, said Jukka Piilola, CTO Air Navigation services Finland Oy

“The Frequentis service offers a comprehensive portfolio for all ex-Schmid telecom customers, including migration, extension and upgrade scenarios. Frequentis has already proved the interconnection and resource sharing capabilities of the VCS3020X with the Schmid ICS 200/60 system still in operation in Katowice, since winning the PANSA contract to replace Schmid last year. This award once again proves our market-leading position in the ATM market, and especially our focus and commitment to being a partner for our customers, even in the most demanding of situations”, commented Hannu Juurakko, Vice President ATM Civil at Frequentis.
