COMSOFT Enlarges Footprint on the African Continent

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority has fully accepted a new aeronautical message handling system for Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra. After signing the contract in March this year, the project had been executed in record time serving the customers wish to swiftly prepare for the impending change in flight plan formats.

The core of the system is composed of an aeronautical messaging solution of the brand AIDA-NG, including a fully automated flight plan converter which establishes full interoperability of Ghanas existing aeronautical infrastructure with ICAOs new flight plan format regulations. AIDA-NG handles all current communication protocols like AFTN and AMHS. The latter benefits from its ability to transport bigger data volumes, to transmit with utmost reliability, to handle virtually unlimited lengths of textual messages, and the option to include binary attachments. The suppliers unrivalled track record of operational AMHS implementations with this system not only meets the customers expectations regarding progressiveness, but also underlines GCAAs endeavour to further enhance aviation safety in the region. The complementary terminal solution CADAS enables access to all kinds of
aeronautical data like NOTAM and weather information and allows filing and retrieving flight plans in either format.

Kotoka International Airport serves as the aviation hub of the West African subregion. The countrys air navigation service provider GCAA is responsible for air traffic in the Accra Flight Information Region (FIR), which comprises the airspace over the Republics of Ghana, Togo and Benin, as well as a large area over the Atlantic Ocean in the Gulf of Guinea.
