ROMATSA transition of the legacy backup system to the new FPL format with FREQUENTIS smartFPLconverter

ROMATSA (Romanian Air Traffic Services Administration) has contracted Frequentis to implement smartFPLconverter as a Gateway to its Legacy Backup Flight Plan Pre-Processing System.
A key challenge for Air Navigation Service Providers is transitioning efficiently to new international standards while protecting legacy investments in existing technologies and workflows. One example is the implementation of the new flight plan and ATS messages format defined by the ICAO in an amendment 1 to Doc 4444 and due for implementation by mid-November 2012.

ROMATSA sought a swift and cost-effective solution that would provide reliable two-way conversion between current and forthcoming FPL format, but without requiring expensive upgrades of its legacy backup flight plan pre-processing system.

Frequentis will provide this turnkey conversion solution using its smartFPLconverter, in collaboration with the companys local partner in Romania (Mira Telecom). smartFPLconverter will integrate seamlessly with the existing systems and includes built-in flexibility allowing ROMATSA to easily adapt formats to local needs or future changes to format specifications.
