The Bahamas Civil Aviation as a Contracting Member State of ICAO is responsible for Safety Oversight throughout the archipelago of the Bahamas. The Bahamas is responsible for all Aviation matters as outlined in the Civil Aviation Act.
The Organization encompasses many technical experts who are qualified in many of the specialty areas of Aviation such as Human Factors, Safety Management Systems, Aerodromes, Licensing, Airworthiness, Operations, Aircraft Accident Investigations, Cabin Safety, Air Navigation Services, Administration and Technical Archives.
As the world of Aviation evolves the Bahamas is making strides to maintain the Standards & Recommended Practices of the Annex’s released by the Governing body of Aviation in the World ICAO. In doing so the Organization is in the process of making historical transitional changes from being a Government Department to that of an Aviation Authority.
The Bahamas Civil Aviation in 2011 was the first of the Caribbean Countries in the North American & Central American Region of ICAO to successfully launch the State Safety Plan a safety initiative instituted by the Council of ICAO. The Organization has many strides and milestones to achieve, but it is the goal of Management to effectively reduce the overall lack of effective implementation of the Bahamas Civil Aviation Audit results ensuring we maintain a Safety Enhanced Aeronautical Industry.
