When considered from a global perspective, the problems of developing solutions for anticipated increases in air traffic volume are not confined to NextGen. As we prepare for transformation in the US, the solutions being developed worldwide must also be considered. A set of distributed solutions is emerging from the various participants in the system. As we explore global systematic change in air traffic management, our interdependencies become increasingly apparent. This symposium will offer a global overview of the key elements of transformation. It will explore research issues related to infrastructure, aircraft and flight vehicles, airports, the environment, and airspace technologies being developed to address system evolution.
