Event description

In recent years, controller-pilot voice communications have seen enormous technological advances. The adoption of new technologies will redefine how communications will take place in the future. The current migration to IP technology brings completely new redundancy and security concepts implemented in current infrastructures such as multi-redundant networks and redundant radio sites that back each other up.

And this is just the beginning of a new era in which the adoption of new ground and satellite based communications technologies will significantly change the way we design and operate controller-cockpit communications. The SESAR Iris project proposes the introduction of Inmarsat's SwiftBroadband-Safety for European continental flight operation, completely challenging current VHF based communications concepts. The new LDACS ground based communications technology will also revolutionize voice connection capabilities and allow new concepts such as sectorless flight. In some regions, the easy to implement space based VHF technology will bring significant changes to current flight routes. Communications networks are designed for long-term operation, and it is therefore essential to understand future developments and to choose the right architecture. Rohde & Schwarz experts will illustrate the evolution of ATC voice networks.
