EUROCONTROL is seeking to add a Safety Technical Assistant to its EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub (EIH).
The role:
- Perform assessments in accordance with applicable methods:
- Safety assessments of Single European Sky ATM Research Programme (SESAR) Solutions in the areas of Airport, ATS (En-route/TMA), Network operations and UAS/U-space.
- Airspace Risk assessments for U-Space.
- Generic Safety Cases.
- Contribute to the preparation of safety related documents (e.g. safety assessment reports) and present content in (internal/external) meetings, as required.
- Apply methods and concepts and assist in the evolution of the safety assessment methods to address new technologies and concepts (e.g. AI, UAS).
- Assist in the specification and development of tools supporting safety assessments of new technologies and concepts (e.g. AI, UAS) that will assist new airspace users.
- Support the development and improvement of integrated risk models and associated tools).
- Support safety-related transversal activities within SESAR (e.g. maturity gate safety reviews, safety contribution to PAGAR).
- Develop training material, guidelines, templates and participate in the delivery of safety related training.
- Carry out other tasks in line with the main purpose of the job.
Required qualifications, experience & competencies:
- A level of relevant post-secondary education (e.g. Engineering).
- Internal candidates should check on the intranetto see what level of in-house experience is considered equivalent to educational qualifications where appropriate.
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience as safety practitioner in European ATM.
- Experience in the use of safety tools and risk modelling.
- Technical drafting skills (English).
- Ability to deliver training.
- Understanding of and interest in Air Traffic Management (ATM) and its evolution (digitalisation, virtualisation, etc.).
- Understanding of safety assessment and safety management practices in European ATM.
- Understanding of the EU and EASA related ATM Regulation including (EU) No 2017/373.
- Understanding of the environment and constraints that apply to conducting safety-related tasks within European ATM.
- In addition, experience in the following areas would be considered a valuable asset:
- SESAR Safety Reference Material methodology
- SESAR Operational Concepts and Programme organisation
- System Engineering with highly integrated, intelligent (incl. high degree of automation) and critical System, preferably in the Aviation domain
- Artificial Intelligence
- Data analysis
- UAS operations and Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA)
- Aircraft operations (Airworthiness, AirOps, piloting, etc.)
- Planning & Organising: You know how to plan ahead and adapt as required.
- Communication: You are able to foster two-way communication.
- Analytical thinking: You analyse information and are able to identify relationships.
- Team work: You foster team work.
- Customer focus: You adapt services to respond to customer needs.
- Ability to work in a multinational and multicultural environment.

- The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be proficient users of English at level C1. The selected candidate will be required to become at least a basic user of French at level A1 before the end of the probation period.
