236 new air traffic controller positions in the last two years

ENAIRE has published a new call for air traffic controller positions

- Madrid, Spain.

A new call for selective tests has been published in the Spanish Official Gazette (BOE) in order to cover permanent positions for air traffic controllers in ENAIRE work centres within Spain.

This is the second call in two years, and it takes place after having received the required authorisation to contract 130 air traffic controllers on a permanent basis:

  • 99 places in this call
  • 15 places taken from the reserve pool of candidates set up in the previous call of May 2016
  • A maximum number of 16 positions for controllers on leave of absence requesting to be reinstated
  • Positions that are not covered through the reserve list and surplus may increase the number of vacancies covered by the call up to the approved 130.

These new 130 air traffic controller positions, added to the 106 offered in 2016, make a total of 236 positions opened in the last two years. With the new additions it is expected that the base of the age pyramid will increase and staff will rejuvenate.

These new positions are proof of the effort made by the Ministry of Public Works through ENAIRE to equip the air traffic manager with the human resources required to fulfil, with guaranteed safety and efficiency, the growth of air traffic currently experienced in Spain.

Once the full conditions of the call are published in the BOE, they will be made available at ENAIRE's website (www.enaire.es), where the request for application can be presented.

ENAIRE's Flight Plan 2020: our ‘Roadmap’
Besides the challenges posed by the Single European Sky and technological modernisation, ENAIRE's Strategic Plan (Flight Plan 2020), which includes the roadmap to follow during the 2017-2020 period, especially focuses on the staffing requirements for upcoming years.
Accordingly, an appropriate number of air traffic controllers will be added to meet the needs arising within the current growing demand, and an improvement of the airspace efficiency will be established, which will result in providing a higher quality service to the users of our airspace.
