AEROTHAI partners with DWI for regional RAIM solution

DWI and AEROTHAI, the ANSP for Thailand, have launched the NETRA RAIM Prediction Service allowing users to calculate RAIM predictions for their PBN operations. NETRA, Sanskrit for ‘eye’, shall provide a web-based RAIM prediction tool for the following PBN Navigation Specifications: RNAV 10, RNAV 5, RNAV 2, RNAV 1, RNP 4, Basic-RNP 1 and RNP APCH. While the tool shall initially offer coverage for Thailand airspace, it can be expanded to include other states in the Asia-Pacific region.

With the proliferation of GNSS procedures throughout the Asia-Pacific region, the ICAO APAC PBN Task Force agreed the requirement for the establishment of a regional RAIM prediction system and at ICAO APANPIRG in September 2011. The minimum Technical and Operational Requirements for a Regional RAIM Prediction System were endorsed.

“There is definitely an emerging trend of regions establishing a RAIM prediction system allowing for seamless air traffic operations and a platform for international cooperation. NETRA is an important step towards establishing such a platform,” said John Wilde, CEO of DWI. “In addition, it contributes to the ICAO PBN goal of harmonisation.”

"AEROTHAI is pleased to have DWI as our partner for the NETRA RAIM Prediction Service. We have started a trial operation with selected airlines customers since October 2013 and plan to fully commence its operation for Bangkok FIR in October 2014. AEROTHAI is looking forward to extending the NETRA RAIM Service coverage beyond Bangkok FIR in the near future." said Pongabha Abhakara, Engineering Manager, Procedure Design and Airspace Development Department, AEROTHAI.
