Airservices Chief: transforming and growing our industry

- Canberra, Australia.

Airservices today outlined its program of transformation to help shape the future of aviation in Australia.

Speaking at its annual industry consultation forum, Waypoint, Airservices Acting Chief Executive Officer, Jason Harfield, said that it was important that while the organisation continues to deliver the vital service of safe skies, it was committed to working with industry to grow the industry.

“Our industry is vital for our nation. Australia is socially and economically dependent on aviation,” Mr Harfield said.

“The safety, efficiency and overall performance of the Australian aviation industry is underpinned by the air traffic management system.”

“We have embarked on a program that will ensure a customer focus to our service delivery, align our back room processes, and cost base.

Mr Harfield also said that many of the changes required in addressing these challenges have already commenced – as the window for change is small.

“We have many important programs underway focused on delivering what is best for our customers, stakeholders and our people,” Mr Harfield said.

Throughout the conference details of several of these programs were discussed, including investment programs, the way in which Airservices will manage future airspace, as well as opportunities for collaboration.

“For Airservices, and ultimately our industry, to succeed, the constraints of the past cannot become the assumptions of our future.

“This is an exciting time to be in the industry. We have to embrace that and in doing so, make sure we are all ‘match fit’, a journey that has already commenced.”
