John Navin appointed Business Development Manager at Airtel ATN

- Dublin, Ireland.

Airtel ATN, dedicated to the development of communications software for the Aeronautical Telecommunications Network (ATN), has announced that John Navin has joined the team as Business Development Manager.

John will be based out of Airtel ATN’s Dublin office and will be working with Airtel ATN’s existing Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSPs) customers including ANS CR, Naviair, Skyguide, LFV, Hungaro Control, DSNA and Nav Portugal.  He will also establish relationships with other international ANSPs to expand the company’s Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) technology.

CPDLC is a type of text message service between pilot and Air Traffic Controllers that covers some of the non-urgent commands that would normally be communicated via radio such as flight level. The European Commission regulation states that all ANSPs must have implemented CPDLC by February 2018. Airtel ATN recently announced that it signed four new ANSP customers in deals worth €1 million in 2014.

John started working in the aerospace industry in 1988 with Aim Aviation. Six years later he moved onto the technology side where he spent 18 years leading sales and marketing in Copperchase, Siemens Transportation Systems and Silver Software. He more recently spent almost 3 years in Micro Nav, an Air Traffic Control simulator system company. His career has taken him around the world working in Europe, Middle East, USA and Africa for major corporates and smaller companies.

John stated: “I am excited about how CPDLC technology has evolved and the opportunities for Airtel ATN. I look forward to sharing this message around the world and being part of a dynamic team in Ireland.”

Working with systems such as AFTN, AMHS, voice and data recording, ground lighting, meteorological systems, message switching, Air Traffic Control and fighter control simulation, John has an excellent understanding of Air Traffic Control systems and processes.

“John is a great addition to our team,” said Frank O’Connor, CEO, Airtel ATN.  “He has been involved in the aerospace industry for more than 25 years and spent a lot of time with Air Traffic Control systems and so has an excellent understanding of the Data Link/CPDLC market across Europe and around the world.”
