CANSO Chairman Ashley Smout to Step Down as Airways CEO

CANSO, the Global Voice of ATM, has announced that its Chairman Ashley Smout will step down from his role as CEO of Airways New Zealand in February 2011, following his decision to take up a post outside the industry. Mr Smout will, however, continue in his capacity as CANSO Chairman until the Associations upcoming AGM in June 2011.

Ashley Smout commented,

I am passionate about CANSO, and after five years as Chairman of the Executive Committee I know first-hand the importance and impact of the Associations work. For these reasons, and as part of my commitment to the Members, it is my intention to remain as Chairman until AGM 2011, and continue our work in developing the Waypoint 2013 Strategy.

CANSO Director General Graham Lake said:

Ashley is a foremost aviation leader, and I am grateful that CANSO will continue to benefit from his support, insight and leadership over the coming months. It is my intention to continue building on our fruitful relationship as he takes up his new post, and when time comes, work closely together to ensure a smooth transition process to a new Chairman.

Mr. Smout joined Airways New Zealand in 1999 and was appointed Chief Executive Officer in 2002. He has served as Chairman of the CANSO Executive Committee since 2005.
