CANSO Welcomes DECEA (Brazil) as a New Full Member

At a ceremony at ICAO Headquarters Montreal, today, CANSO, the global voice of Air Traffic Management, has welcomed the Brazilian Department of Airspace Control (DECEA) as the latest Full Member of the Association.

DECEA (Departamento de Controle do Espaço Aéreo) is the Air Navigation Service Provider for Brazil. A governmental organisation, under the Ministry of Defense and the Brazilian Air Force, DECEA aims to improve the safety and efficiency of air navigation in Brazilian sovereign airspace and, at the same time, ensure its defence. It occupies a crucial position in the worlds airspace network, controlling 8.5 million square kilometers of sovereign space over Brazilian territory and more than 22 million square kilometers overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. This geo-strategic position as a door to Africa, Europe and the Middle East grants Brazil an important role in the South American and global air transportation community.

General Ramon Borges Cardoso, Director-General of DECEA, said:

I am extremely pleased to confirm today that DECEA has joined the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation. DECEA is committed to the provision of safe and efficient air navigation services, and I believe we can only benefit from connecting with CANSOs worldwide network of air traffic management professionals. Together, DECEA and CANSO can play a key role in improving regional air traffic management, to the benefit of air transport across Latin America and beyond.

CANSO Director General Graham Lake said:

It is a pleasure to personally welcome DECEA to the CANSO family. It is tremendously important for CANSO to have such an important player in world aviation on board, and it is the perfect boost for our newly-created Americas office, which will be leading transformation of air traffic management performance in the region.
