Nominations open for CANSO Global Safety Achievement Award 2022

- Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Air Traffic Management providers around the world have been invited to submit their nominations for the CANSO (Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation) Global Safety Achievement Award 2022.

The award honours those organisations, companies or teams that made a significant safety contribution to reducing aviation risk in 2022. Local, regional or global nominations are welcome, as are those for new or improved processes, procedures, technologies or training improvements.

Bill Middleswart, CANSO’s Safety Programme Director, said: “While 2022 saw a significant return to traffic levels seen before the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the speed of the return was not without its challenges for the aviation industry. And that wasn't just the case of well publicised airport issues either. The safety of aviation continues to be the number one priority of all in the industry, and 2022 was not without its challenges, as passengers returned and conflicts restricted airspace.

"With that in mind, it is time once again to recognise those who went above and beyond the safety call of duty, with the launch of the CANSO Global Safety Achievement Award, 2022.”

Nominations close on 2 December with the shortlist announced on 3 January. The 2022 recipient will be announced to the industry during a CANSO Safety Programme gathering at Airspace World in Geneva, Switzerland, in March.

ENAIRE and CRIDA won the 2021 award for their work on the the Automatic Safety Monitoring Tool (ASMT). The tool provides candidate events which may be considered infringements. These candidates are often non-genuine and subject to a costly filtering process, crucial for accurately reporting on safety performance indicators.
