Air Traffic Technical Company Limited (ATTECH), a subsidiary of The Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), have awarded German expert COMSOFT an essential ADS-B surveillance project for the Northern part of Vietnam, in order to enhance surveillance of Vietnamese air space along with providing further observation over the neighboring sea.
Vietnam operates 21 major civil airports, including eight international gateways. Plans to increase the country’s international airports, to 10 by 2015, is cause enough for heightened air traffic surveillance as flights to the country and region continue to increase by up to five per cent annually. Furthermore, with the country’s 3000 kilometres of coastline, the long-range surveillance solution will also provide added surveillance for this section of ocean.
COMSOFT’s Quadrant ADS-B sensor provides a lightweight and cost-efficient alternative to conventional radar with the ability to build a complete air situation picture from airport surface to well beyond 250 Nautical Miles. The dual redundant Quadrant sensors will cover the whole northern region down to Da Nang, with 15 receiver sensors located at seven sites; Noi Bai, Cat Bi, Moc Chau, Dien Bien, Tho Xuan, Vinh and Dong Hoi. One site monitor at each site will also increase the performance monitoring for the entire system.
VATM and COMSOFT have worked together since 2008 when they purchased COMSOFT’s AIS solution, with COMSOFT's Aeronautical Data Access Systems (CADAS) at its core. By now adding COMSOFT’s superior surveillance solution to their repertoire VATM will increase surveillance for North Vietnam, allowing higher accuracy at significantly lower costs, as well as heightened efficiency and safety in all operational procedures.
COMSOFT’s Quadrant ADS-B is an expandable modular solution, adaptable to various operating conditions, allowing it to fit perfectly with a range of customer demands. The planned positions of sensors, and the timing of information they collect, will enable increased surveillance accuracy as well as providing considerable range over secondary radar.
