Danish-Swedish Air Traffic Management plan FAB

To ensure more efficient Air Traffic Management and benefits for the environment as well as the economy, the Swedish Minister for Infrastructure, Mrs Åsa Torstensson and the Danish Minister for Transport Mr Lars Barfoed have agreed to join Danish and Swedish airspace in one.
A joint airspace will result in Air Traffic Control effectiveness. The flight routes will be shorter and the airlines will save fuel. At the same time, the project will be beneficial to the environment through reduction of CO2 emission and beneficial to society through shorter travel time. The advantages are obvious: Shorter travel time and reduction of fuel and CO2 emission. In the long term, this may save approx 45 million euros every year. - This cooperation places Denmark and Sweden in the front rank when it comes to harmonization and efficiency in European airspace, says Minister for Communications, Mrs Åsa Torstensson. - Borders are no longer to be decisive of the flight routes. Focus must be on cost effectiveness and the shortest route in order to avoid flying zigzag because of borders. At the same time, we gain decisive influence in the ongoing development of Air Traffic Management in the Nordic region of Europe, says Minister for Transport, Mr Lars Barfoed. Now, Denmark and Sweden will be preparing the decisions to implement the Danish-Swedish airspace before the end of 2009. The ambition is that other countries join the cooperation.
