DFS at the World ATM Congress

- Langen, Germany

The World ATM Congress is being held in Madrid from 12 to 14 February for the first time. DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH will present new developments and tried-and-tested solutions for the air navigation industry at its stand 834, hall 9. DFS is increasingly positioning itself as a global partner in a variety of projects in aviation management. For 20 years now, DFS has been providing consulting and training services and developing and selling technical solutions. Prof Klaus-Dieter Scheurle, who became the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DFS at the beginning of this year, will participate in the Congress' conference programme.

At the congress, DFS will present a prototype of the

Electronic Sector Manual

, which was shortlisted in the Service Provision category of the IHS Jane's ATC Award. This is a mobile solution using iPads and lets controllers and other air navigation services personnel view information, such as operational regulations, agreements and charts that are relevant to their work, filtered according to their area of activity. The application also provides dynamic data, such as NOTAM or meteorological data, and offers briefing functions.

Another new development presented by DFS is its mobile training simulator for en-route control called

NEWSAS

. With NEWSAS, exercises can be carried out at any time and anywhere. The software is located on central servers and users start the program with a simple mouse click on a website they access from their PC. The

Design Process Guide

is a web-based software that helps incorporate human factors and ergonomics in ATM software development. This tool contains ergonomic expertise from international standards, directives, rules and regulations. Furthermore, the software automatically points out dependencies or conflicts between the selected design elements, such as the interior lighting and the background colour of the screen.

As a cooperation partner, the Brazilian ATM system manufacturer ATECH will present the air traffic flow management system

SkyFlow

on the DFS stand. Moreover, the ATM system

SkyManager

, a joint development by Skysoft-ATM, SITA and DFS will be shown. Visitors to the congress can also obtain information about established solutions such as the multi-sensor data fusion system PHOENIX and the Advanced Arrival Management System.
