Iacopo Prissinotti, Director of Network Management at EUROCONTROL and his team met today in Madrid with ENAIRE's Managing Director, Angel Luis Arias and his management team, at a meeting organised by ENAIRE. The goal of the meeting was to jointly review the management of air transport, national and network initiatives to improve operational efficiency and excellence in service provision (with the focus on improving capacity and environmental sustainability), and sustainable air connectivity, all in an effort to enhance safety as an area of action.
At this meeting, the top managers of ENAIRE and EUROCONTROL analysed the positive air traffic outlook for 2022, especially for the summer. They discussed measures at the national and European level to guarantee the highest service quality to all aviation users in order to facilitate the recovery of air traffic in the wake of the pandemic.
They also addressed other important matters, such as the modernisation of airspace structures, both through national and network initiatives, planned actions in the area of digital communications, and the commitment to technological modernisation, as envisaged in ENAIRE's Strategic Plan (Flight Plan 2025) initiatives. Also central to the meeting were: the transition towards the Single European Sky in terms of resilience, scalability, efficiency and digitisation, which will help improve airspace management in Europe; and the process of implementing the Digital Single European Sky.
To undertake this transformation, ENAIRE has designed its strategic 2025 Flight Plan, which considers the complexity of the current and future challenges facing air navigation, and addresses the needs of its clients in particular, and of the aviation sector in general.
ENAIRE, through its Director of Operations, Xavier Benavent, chairs the European working group of the Network Manager, which makes decisions involving the design and management of transnational traffic flows, adopts joint measures to mitigate the impact of adverse weather events, and solidifies relationships between different countries and airspace interfaces.
