Santano highlights that ENAIRE’s Barcelona Control Centre has been equipped with the most advanced technology in Europe

José Antonio Santano, Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility and Chairman of ENAIRE, today took part in a working visit to the Barcelona Air Traffic Control Centre, where, together with ENAIRE’s Director General, Enrique Maurer, and the Director of the Eastern Region, Laura Garcés, he visited the control room, the equipment and support infrastructure room, the operations room, the simulator and the contingency room, as well as Aena’s control tower at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport.

Santano’s visit coincides with the recent modernisation of the control room, which has replaced its controller working positions with the new iFOCUCS, a major technological advance in how air traffic controllers manage information and data.

Santano stressed that “ENAIRE’s Barcelona Control Centre has been equipped with the most advanced air traffic control technology in Europe, with an investment of more than €12 million in refurbishing its facilities and equipment”. The Secretary of State said that this contributes to “the major drive for innovation and digitalisation in air navigation in Spain set out in ENAIRE’s Strategic Plan”.
