Era Multilateration System for Namibia Successfully Passes Site Acceptance Testing

Era today announced that its multilateration and ADS-B system in Namibia for the Directorate of Civil Aviation (NDCA) has successfully passed site acceptance testing. The system, the worlds largest wide area multilateration (WAM) solution, covers more than 825,000 square kilometers and is a significant component of an overall air traffic management (ATM) system upgrade, managed by Thales the prime on the contract.

Era's MSS ADS-B and multilateration system now provides complete nationwide coverage for Namibia, and is helping NDCA manage the regions increasing air traffic. The Era solution consists of a network of 36 strategically placed MSS ground stations that provide optimal surveillance coverage of the entire country.

The Namibian WAM system is the largest multilateration project ever completed, solidifying and maintaining Eras position as the leader in providing truly large-scale WAM-based next generation surveillance technologies for the 21st century, said Era Senior Vice President Kevin Layton. MSS is the ideal solution for countries that are looking to replace or add surveillance over large areas and difficult terrain, as it is a scalable and cost-effective solution that provides better coverage and improved reliability when compared to traditional radar.

Era a.s. provides next-generation air traffic management tools that address core challenges like safety, efficiency, profitability and functionality. Its innovative use of proven next-generation technologies, like multilateration and ADS-B, help air navigation service providers (ANSPs) and airport operators ease capacity constraints; improve airspace and ground space efficiencies; and reduce costs.
