EUROCONTROL helps deliver global interoperability

Global interopearability is essential in the planet-wide activity of air transport. Key European actors in the international effort to achieve global aviation operability will play a central role at ICAOs Twelfth Air Navigation Conference (AN-Conf/12). This major event will take place from 19 to 30 November 2012 in Montreal, Canada.

EUROCONTROL, the European Aviation Safety Agency, the European Commission, the SESAR Joint Undertaking and the European Civil Aviation Conference will be joining forces with other partners in the worlds aviation community. Together, they plan to define the next steps to be taken in creating a seamless global navigation system. The Single European Sky is just the beginning. A single global sky is the ultimate aim.

Adding to EUROCONTROL's contribution to achieving greater ATM interoperability will be a carefully selected delegation of experts, led by Bo Redeborn, Principal Director ATM. All these experts have been actively involved in the ICAO Technical and Challenge teams in preparing a new edition of the Global Air Navigation Plan.

Thanks to the close coordination between the European organisations and the 44 States of the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), 36 working papers have been submitted as joint proposals to the Conference. These papers contain recommendations and actions aimed at improving the planning, development and implementation of future changes in the ATM system. They also hope to make Europes system more globally interoperable and better equipped to meet the requisite performance levels. Two working papers have been jointly submitted with the United States.

Europes contribution is based on European experience. The AN-Conf/12 gives us the opportunity to cross-fertilise our approach with that of other regions. We will address the needs of different ATM modernisation programmes in a variety of States and regions and, in particular, plan the timely establishment of the global standards required by the SESAR programme.

EUROCONTROL, EASA, the European Commission, the SESAR Joint Undertaking and ECAC will have a joint stand at the AN-Conf/12 Exhibition, which will be held on 19-21 November 2012.

Under the slogan, "Partnering to deliver global interoperability", the five organisations will present Europe's involvement in a globally harmonised navigation system.
