Federal Aviation Administration selects Barco for its Terminal Main Display Monitor Replacement program

Representing a significant technical advancement for the Terminal Automation environment, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is procuring Barco's world-leading ISIS 2Kx2K LCD main displays as a direct replacement for existing CRT displays installed in STARS (Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System) and Common ARTS (Automated Radar Terminal System) equipped TRACON (Terminal Radar Approach Control) facilities.
Visualization pioneer Barco has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract by the FAA in accordance with its Terminal Main Display Monitor (MDM) Replacement program, supplying more than 2,000 ISIS 2Kx2K LCD monitors as fully form/fit/functional replacements for existing CRT displays in ATC consoles. This contract also represents Barco's first major order of ISIS displays equipped with its latest, energy-saving LED backlight technology a capability which provides real-time controlled brightness to reduce eye fatigue and enhance user comfort, while enabling greater visual acuity. The displays also consume 20 percent less power than the existing CRTs.

This award is a true testament to Barco's technology leadership in the Air Traffic Control space, where we have led the industry since the inception of our ISIS displays, commented Dave Scott, Senior VP and General Manager of the Defense & Aerospace Division at Barco. We are honored that the FAA is choosing our solution for such a widespread deployment; in fact, it's the largest MDM replacement in the world to date.

Barco's ISIS flat panel LCD display has become the world's leading square display for use as a direct replacement of the CRT display. The 4-megapixel ISIS flat panel main display is fully compatible with the worldwide de facto Air Traffic Control standard 20 x 20 square format and 2048x2048 resolution. The ISIS display's reliable design and advanced ergonomic solution allow operators to display high-quality, high resolution images 24/7/365. ISIS displays and associated graphics controllers combine performance, low lifecycle cost, user comfort and eco-friendliness into innovative visualization architecture.
