FREQUENTIS awarded LASER project by DFS

DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung has awarded Frequentis a contract to deliver the operational well approved voice communications system ISIS-XM for installation at Langen ACC and APP. ISIS-XM based voice communication systems developed and manufactured by Frequentis are already in operation at the BremenACC/APP and Karlsruhe UAC.
DFS is very pleased with the service delivery as well as operational performance of these systems. To increase efficiency DFS will install ISIS-XM voice switches at all ACC/APP sites in Germany. Finally DFS will operate one integrated voice communications network, the VOICE-NET. VOICE-NET will allow flexible use of local operator positions independently from the location of controlled airspace. Project LASER (LAngen Sprachvermittlung ERneuerung) continues the long-term cooperation between the German ANSP and the global market leader in voice communication systems for air traffic control.

The communication systems planned for DFSs voice communication network within project LASER are based on 3020 G5 system platform and VCX network nodes. Implementation at Langen will begin this year, with further expansion planned for 2012. Some 160 new operator positions will see the LASER project extend the facilitys capacity to 304 positions during the migration phase. This makes it one of the largest air traffic control voice systems in Europe, fully equipped with technology in accordance to FABEC VCS specification.

In the frame work of project LASER Frequentis will supply four systems within an overall contingency concept. These systems exploit the G5 platform, with an architecture suited to all IP-based 3020 products. IP gateways ensure the full integration of existing systems and the platform will also provide the foundation for future projects. Frequentis VCX network nodes will support nationwide networking.

Frequentis is the first ATM system supplier to provide its communication products on the basis of EUROCAE WG-67 specifications. Frequentis supports the major research and specification initiatives defining future communication concepts in ATM, as evidenced by its participation in the SESAR Joint Undertaking (JU) and various FAA NEXTGEN research activities. As such, Frequentis is the first supplier to have implemented the EUROCAE ED-137 specifications in all of its ATM communications products.

DFS awarded Frequentis the LASER contract because of the high degree on flexibility, expandability as well as proven software and hardware quality of the existing ISIS-XM systems. The new systems will be integrated using the existing workstation hardware. Were very pleased to be able to extend the successful cooperation with Frequentis, which has always been characterised by technical excellence, innovation and the regular interchange of ideas and information, says Mr. Gernold Zurr, Head of Operational Voice Communications at DFS.
