ENAIRE Trusts in Countrywide ATM-Grade Network Solution from FREQUENTIS

- Vienna, Austria.

The ATM modernisation programme for ENAIRE encompasses a complete network solution for over 120 sites and integration of all voice services via ED137-compliant VoIP gateways into the new MPLS network. DF Núcleo and Frequentis will integrate those voice services at about 90 sites. With ENAIRE, another large European ANSP is demonstrating its confidence in Frequentis’s superior ATM solutions.

The public corporate entity ENAIRE is the company designated by the country of Spain to provide air transit services in the en route and approach phases. Its five control centres and 22 control towers manage close to 1.8 million flights per year, making ENAIRE one of the four largest ANSPs in Europe. Empowered by Frequentis as a strategic supplier, ENAIRE will soon be safely controlling 2,190,000 square kilometres of airspace based on a fully networked VoIP infrastructure.

One of ENAIREs biggest technological assets is the air navigation data network (REDAN). The network plays an increasingly important role as it keeps operations running and enables sharing of information between centres and sensor sites. ENAIRE continuously seeks to keep its assets at the cutting edge of technology. Within the strategic project REDAN Fase V, ENAIRE is planning the modernisation of its entire network with over 120 sites and the integration of all voice services into the new MPLS network at about 90 sites. As the modernisation takes place at the heart of its ATM operations – the network – ENAIRE evaluated all solution providers carefully using comprehensive test procedures of their available products.

ENAIRE selected Telefonica as the turnkey supplier for the overall solution with the team NúcleoFrequentis as a subcontractor for the integration of voice services. Frequentis and Núcleo will jointly provide the gateways and also take care of the integration of Spanish legacy systems. Manuel García Martín, Head of Communications Division ENAIRE, comments: “ENAIRE was searching for reliable partners with an excellent reputation in the European ATM market. Frequentis and Núcleo DF have proven to be the right counterpart to take on ENAIRE’s complex modernisation programme.”

Hannu Juurakko, Vice President ATM Civil, says, “We are honoured ENAIRE entrusted us with the modernisation of its voice communication services. We are looking forward to assisting ENAIRE with our superior communication solutions and with our domain know-how in ATM-grade network solutions.”
