FREQUENTIS and Greenland Airports win Seamless Skies award in the Remarkable People & Workforce category at Airspace World
Frequentis has won the Remarkable People & Workforce category at the Seamless Skies Awards, recognising the extraordinary collaboration and innovation behind a cutting-edge digital tower solution for South Greenland.
Delivered in partnership with Greenland Airports and COMSA Corporación, this achievement highlights how teamwork and expertise can overcome even the most demanding conditions to enable safe, efficient air traffic operations.
“This was not just a technical deployment, it was a logistical and human coordination effort and every team member showed extreme commitment under challenging conditions,” says Thomas Branner, Greenland Airports Air Traffic Services Project Coordinator. “By enhancing accessibility and reducing the cost of essential travel, Qaqortoq Airport has strengthened regional connectivity and created new pathways for tourism, healthcare access, and economic growth.”
For decades, South Greenland relied on a remote airfield located far from population centres, requiring complex and weather-dependent transfers. When work began, the site had no runway, no control tower, and no road access, only rugged terrain, Arctic weather, and a helipad. Within just a few months in 2025, a highly skilled international team transformed the location into a future-ready airport, equipped with advanced digital tower capability.
“This recognition at the Seamless Skies Awards reflects the dedication, resilience, and shared commitment of all people involved in delivering the state-of-the-art digital air traffic solution at Qaqortoq Airport. It underscores how Frequentis, together with its partners, is driving digital innovation in aviation, proving that advanced technology can deliver lasting benefits, even in the most remote regions of the world,” says Reinhard Grimm, Frequentis Executive Vice President ATM Civil.
