GUTMA published its first public paper “Designing UTM for global success”

- Lausanne, Switzerland.

The document is the result of several months of collaboration among GUTMA members and marks a significant milestone in the association’s history.

The paper underpins the need to develop a global infrastructure and regulatory paradigm that work in harmonization with existing Air Traffic Management technologies. GUTMA believes that such infrastructure should support the growing needs of emerging aviation stakeholders whilst ultimately promoting safety and automation.

The development of technology standards and best practices is also highlighted within the paper as crucial to the evolution and market readiness of UTM.

GUTMA recognises the fact that it is essential to engage with regulatory and governmental bodies to pioneer a UTM approach that is built on an open, federated architecture that leverages, refines and enhances interoperability between the different actors of the ecosystem. GUTMA encourages the engagement and support of regulatory agencies and ANSPs in demonstrating, operationalizing and deploying UTM services through the creation of appropriate environments such as the European Network of U-Space Demonstrators, the FAA UTM Pilot Program or the Swiss FOCA Swiss U-space Implementation to accelerate the necessary learnings for both government and industry.

Finally, the GUTMA paper provides several recommendations to all stakeholders to design a UTM for global success.

Eszter Kovacs, Acting Secretary General of GUTMA said: “With the publication of ‘Designing a UTM for Global Success’ and the associated recommendations, GUTMA establishes itself as a credible partner for regulators and governments worldwide. As acting Secretary General of the association, I would like to express my gratitude to the team and to all GUTMA members whose relentless work made this paper possible.”
