Representatives from the world's leading airspace management organizations will learn how new technology can connect them seamlessly during presentations made by Harris Corporation technology experts at the inaugural World ATM Congress 2013. The conference, to be held February 12-14 in Madrid, will serve as a forum for air navigation service providers and industry suppliers.
Aviation communications experts from Harris have been selected to lead a panel discussion and address attendees during two sessions that focus on implementing globally interoperable communications technology for air traffic management (ATM). The sessions are:
"SWIM: NextGen, SESAR and Global Harmonization for ATM Stakeholders,"
February 12, 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., ATM Theatre.
David Almeida, director of FAA Programs for System Wide Information Management (SWIM) and Weather Information Systems for Harris Mission Critical Networks, will lead a panel discussion about how open system architecture and SWIM technology, when integrated among aviation stakeholders, enable seamless interoperability. With SWIM, airlines will be able to communicate with any ATM organization in any country with ease, resulting in enhanced efficiencies and reduced costs.
Panelists include Steve Bradford, chief scientist and NextGen architect for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA); Marc Brochard, SWIM engineer for Eurocontrol; and Ian Painter, U.S. managing director for Snowflake Software. Robert Goldman from Delta Air Lines will also participate in the panel discussion. Based on their unique perspectives, these industry experts will discuss the outcome of an international demonstration on collaborative decision-making, including benefits and findings.

Alain Tremblay, senior engineering director for Harris Mission Critical Networks, will discuss Harris' new IP-based voice communication system, VCS21, which was recently procured by the FAA as part of its National Airspace System Voice System contract. The session will explain how this secure, native-IP voice enterprise solution - which creates a modern voice network for critical communications between air traffic controllers, pilots and ground personnel - will support critical NextGen objectives, including air traffic control facility load sharing, business continuity planning, and facility consolidation.
