Indra consolidates its global leadership of Air Traffic Management (ATM) with the launch of its subsidiary in the USA, Indra Air Traffic Inc.

- Madrid, Spain.

Indra is seeking to become the undisputed number one company in the air traffic management business and has taken a significant step to achieve its goal by launching Indra Air Traffic Inc., its new US subsidiary, at an introductory event held on May 1st in Overland Park, Kansas.  This marks the launch of the activity of the new company integrated into its ATM business.

The event was attended by US Senator for Kansas, Jerry Moran; Kansas Congresswoman Sharice L. Davids; Kansas Deputy Secretary of Commerce, Paul Hughes; and Overland Park City Council President, Jim Kite. Ramón Tarrech, Indra’s Director of ATM Business Strategy, and Bill Colligan, the CEO of Indra Air Traffic Inc, who acted as master of ceremonies, attended on the company’s behalf. The 100-plus professionals who will work for the new company were also included in the week’s festivities.

After acquiring the air traffic business line of Selex ES, which focuses on air navigation aid systems, and converting it into a new company in its air traffic business, Indra has gained a strong foothold in the United States. The aim is to put its comprehensive portfolio of products and services and its experience in the ATM business going back over four decades at the service of the country’s upcoming renewal of its air infrastructure. Indra Air Traffic Inc. will also offer some of the most cutting-edge technologies that Indra is known for worldwide.

We must now add the assets incorporated into the United States, including the only Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) certified by the FAA, and new customers such as the US Air Force and the US Navy, which complement Indra’s offering and customer portfolio.

Ramón Tarrech, Indra’s Director of ATM Business Strategy, highlighted during his speech at the launch event that “the United States is one of the largest national airspaces in the world and its ATM business has excellent potential for growth. Reinforcing our presence and activity in the country will open up huge opportunities for us, help us complete our global leadership of the sector and allow us to introduce internationally proven state-of-the-art technology into a country with a clearly innovative DNA”.

Bill Colligan, CEO of Indra Air Traffic Inc, said that “joining Indra, a world leader in the sector, will help us strengthen our portfolio and offer a comprehensive service to our customers. Indra is the only company in the world with proprietary technology that can cover all of the segments of the industry and fully manage a flight throughout all of its stages”.

Indra’s subsidiary in the United States was created with a hundred professionals and a production plant in Overland Park, Kansas. At these facilities, Indra will create a center of excellence for air navigation aid systems (NAVAIDS) from which it will provide service to customers in the USA and the rest of the world, constituting the starting point for the development of an industrial plan that seeks to incorporate other products into Indra’s portfolio, market them and add new capabilities.

World-leading technology

Indra is the leading air traffic technological engineering company that is defining the way we fly and managing the skies of the future to ensure even safer, more efficient and sustainable aviation.

It has unique experience. It has deployed over 6,000 installations in more than 90% of the world’s countries and its technology can be found on the flights of over 85% of passengers during at least one phase of their trip.

The company leads some of the most advanced and demanding programs, projects and systems that are transforming the industry. For example, Indra is working on the digitalization of EUROCONTROL’s Integrated Network Manager, it’s the technological partner of iTEC, where it works with seven of the main European Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) to promote the Single European Digital Sky.  Indra is a partner for the modernization of air infrastructures in Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, providing services to the most iconic and complex customers.

Thanks to its technological capacity, Indra stands at the forefront of the sector’s digitalization and air traffic automation. The application of the most advanced technologies helps ensures safety and service continuity and brings, among other benefits, an unprecedented level of precision to flight management. It also contributes to increasing capacity and punctuality, cutting emissions to move toward “Green Aviation” and has the flexibility to adapt to demand and react to any unforeseen events.

Indra was one of the first companies in the world to roll out 4D-trajectory air traffic management systems, digital and remote control tower systems and solutions based on artificial intelligence, big data, digitized IP communications and 3D radars capable of withstanding the effects of wind turbines. Moreover, the company constantly searches for new solutions and is now designing drone traffic management systems (UTM/U-Space), as well as space-based air navigation services.
