Indra, one of the leading global technology and consulting companies, is setting up a new, state-of-the-art radar in Tunisia to reinforce its air traffic surveillance network, one of the most comprehensive and which offers the best safety and highest efficiency in flight management around the world.
Indra has worked for twelve years without interruption with the Tunisian Civil Aviation and Airports Authority (OACA, Office de l’Aviation Civile et des Aéroports) in the comprehensive configuration of a sky that is fully adapted to its needs.
It has modernized the better part of the air traffic management systems in the country, an important infrastructure to strengthen international trade and tourism, two of its main economic driving forces.
In the context of the current pandemic, which has had an impact on the sector and reduced traffic all over the world, OACA is carrying on with its constant improvement strategy and is working alongside Indra in the introduction of a secondary radar that will replace the current working system, with the latest advances in aircraft detection and identification. It will be located in Akouda, a few kilometers from the tourist destination city of Sousse.
This helps OACA reinforce the already dense network of eight primary and secondary radars and several ADS-B systems provided by Indra that make up the surveillance of this country of 163.6 thousand square kilometers.
These systems guarantee great flexibility to adapt to abrupt changes in the demand during the following months. They also reinforce its capacity to overcome any problem and guarantee the highest safety level possible in the management of all the aerial operations that it manages.
The sensor network provides a high precision and quality traffic vision to the control center of the city of Tunis, which manages all the domestic flights on routes, as well as to the rest of the approach centers.
Both the control center in Tunis and the approach center on the island of Djerba currently operate with the Indra Air Automation system, one of the most reliable and technologically advanced in the ATM market, which is used by some of the world’s most important navigation system suppliers.
