inter airport Europe 2009: Trend barometer and global meeting point for the airport industry

From 6-9 October 2009, inter airport Europe, 17th International Exhibition for Airport Equipment, Technology, Design & Services, will open its doors again in Munich, Germany; for the first time at its new venue, the Munich Trade Fair Centre. 500 exhibitors from 27 countries will display a comprehensive range of new products and services for the airport industry.
inter airport Europe is the worldwide biggest trade show for airport experts. 13,000 visitors from 128 countries came to the previous exhibition in 2007. Although the current economic crisis has had an impact on the airport industry, this years inter airport Europe presents itself on extended show grounds. At its new and modern venue the event covers the halls B5 and B6 with a direct connection to the outdoor area for large-scale equipment. Solutions for future airports While passenger traffic shows some signs of improvement in the current holiday season, worldwide air traffic figures continue to show a downward trend. Freight traffic in particular is still severely impacted by the current global economic situation. At inter airport Europe, which is seen as a trend barometer of the industry, the products presented this year will focus upon intelligent solutions to tackle the current challenges. Cost awareness, environmental sustainability, customer service and high security standards play a pivotal role. inter airport Europe is renowned as a one stop shop for the entire airport industry, explains Nicola Hamann, Show Director inter airport Europe on behalf of Mack Brooks Exhibitions. Every other year, the exhibition brings together international suppliers, buyers, consultants, operators and industry experts from airports, airlines and cargo carriers. Particularly in times like these, inter airport, the leading exhibition for this industry, offers the chance to exchange ideas with other experts and to source the right equipment for investing in the future. Vast array of products and services The exhibition categories of interRAMP (ground support equipment), interTERMINAL (technical terminal installations and services) and interDATA (specialised hard and software) have now been extended to include interDESIGN (architecture and furnishings for the terminal). By encompassing the design element as an individual category, inter airport Europe reflects the trend that airport operators increasingly find that a pleasant atmosphere in the terminal building is as important to the passenger as functionality. Visitors to the exhibition will find a comprehensive range of new and upgraded products and services for the terminal: from innovative software systems for self-check-in facilities and high-tech equipment for liquid detection in hand baggage to enhanced baggage-conveyor belts. Ergonomically designed seating solutions and specialised furniture represent the design aspect of the exhibition programme. In the outdoor area of the trade show suppliers of powerful vehicle and large-scale equipment present their latest technology. As environmental sustainability and energy saving has become ever more important, a large number of electric vehicles can be found on the apron. New models of snow sweepers, push-back tractors, de-icers and service vehicles have been developed to work even more efficiently.
