Introducing ATC Week – a week-long celebration of air traffic control taking place in UAE on 4-8 October 2015

Industry stakeholders confirmed to run events as part of ATC Week include Dubai Air Navigation Services (DANS); UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA); International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Emirates Airline in conjunction with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)

United Business Media (UBM), a multinational media and events corporation responsible for the organisation of the ATC Global Exhibition and Conference today announced the official launch of ATC Week. ATC Week invites the air traffic control community to take part in a series of independent events and networking activities across the UAE between 4thand 8th October 2015.

As patron of ATC Week, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Airports; President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority; Chairman and CEO of Emirates Group, Chairman of Dubai Air Navigation Services said “We welcome the launch of ATC Week in the UAE as the latest initiative to facilitate progress in the continuously growing and evolving aviation industry. We look forward to welcoming aviation professionals from the UAE, the region and the world over to participate in a weeklong series of face-to-face events and discussions shaping the future direction of safe and efficient air transport.”

Speaking about this new initiative, Paula Milburn, Development Director - Aviation, UBM EMEA stated “ATC Week has been designed to highlight the importance of air traffic control and the contribution it makes to the global transport infrastructure. We welcome the international air traffic management community to take part and benefit from this unique opportunity to network and share best practice with international counterparts.”

Applications to host an event are now open with confirmed events including:

4 October - Dubai Air Navigation Services ATC Tour, organised by Dubai Air Navigation Services (DANS) Senior representatives from air navigation service providers, airports, airlines and regulators will be invited on a tour of the Air Traffic Control Tower, Approach and World’s Largest Tower Simulator located within Al Maktoum International Airport.

4-6 October – Aviation System Block Upgrade (ASBU) implementation Workshop, a collaboration between IATA and its regional airline members, Emirates Airline and ICAO The workshop will focus on the air navigation performance planning process detailed in the Fourth Edition of the ICAO Global Air Navigation Plan (GANP) along with ASBU methodology, users’ requirements, major traffic flows, cost effectiveness and global, regional objectives/priorities. The ASBU Implementation Workshop will make reference to current and forecast traffic flows originating or overflying the Middle East and/or Africa.

4 & 8 October –The Sheikh Zayed Centre Tour, organised by GCAA Industry stakeholders are invited to take part in organised tours of the Sheikh Zayed Centre. Opened in late 2009, The Sheikh Zayed Centre is considered the largest and busiest air traffic management facility in the Middle East as well as one of the world’s most technically advanced centres in terms of its design.

5-7 October – ATC Global, the flagship event of ATC Week, organised by UBM Celebrating its 25th year as the annual meeting place for the international air traffic management community, the three-day exhibition and conference will welcome thousands of ATM professionals looking to build partnerships, share knowledge, meet new customers and debate the most critical issues facing ATM today.

ATC Week will engage with a broad range of air traffic management stakeholders, providing a valuable platform to discuss and promote the contemporary industry developments and the direction of air traffic control operations, technology, policy and structure.
Air navigation service providers, airports, aircraft operators, regulators and ATM suppliers will have the opportunity to take part in a wide selection of independent events including workshops, educational sessions, briefings, site visits, product demonstrations and tours.
