Jotron, a global leader in communication technology for land, sea, and air applications, has successfully delivered a VHF radio solution to Latvijas Gaisa Satiksme (LGS), supporting the modernization of Latvia's emergency air-to-ground communication system. Following a public tender, the project included the replacement of the existing emergency radios and voice communication system (VCS) with a state-of-the-art VoIP-based solution, enhancing the performance and resilience of critical aviation communications.

Strengthening aviation safety, reliability, and real-time coordination

Latvijas Gaisa Satiksme (LGS) is a strategic, state-owned air navigation service provider responsible for ensuring safe and efficient air traffic operations in accordance with international standards. The contract includes the replacement of the existing emergency radio and voice communication system (VCS). Under the agreement, Jotron has supplied a complete VoIP-based solution comprising fifteen TR-910 Last Resort (LR) radios with remote-control capability, controlled by Joron’s emergency VCS.

The TR-910LR VHF radio, featuring integrated battery backup, provides reliable communications in critical aviation environments and is the preferred last-resort ATC communication radio for Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) worldwide.

Jotron has supplied emergency radios to Riga Airport since 2011. The new radio systems were successfully commissioned and accepted on 17 September following Site Acceptance Test (SAT). The emergency air-to-ground communication systems are planned for deployment at Riga Area Control Centre (ACC) and its new control tower, as well as at Liepāja International Airport, following completion of the required certification and operational implementation activities.

Next-generation airport emergency communications

“The project has progressed exceptionally well, and we greatly appreciate Jotron’s support. With its advanced functionality, intuitive operation, and cutting-edge design, the system is set to become one of the most advanced VHF emergency communication solutions in the Baltic region, meeting the highest European standards and best practices,” said Ainārs Šņepsts, Chief of Communication Division at LGS.

“The continued collaboration with LGS highlights the strong relationship we have built over time,” said Christian Pindsle, International Sales Director, ATC & Coastal at Jotron. "By combining expertise, innovation, and a shared commitment to safety, we are helping ensure robust communication capabilities for the future."
