Life at Murzilli Consulting: Behind the Scenes of a European-Based Advanced Aviation and Drone Consulting Powerhouse

What does working at one of the world’s leading companies in advanced air mobility, innovative aviation and technology entail?

Since its founding in Bern, Switzerland, just five years ago, Murzilli Consulting has evolved from a bold start-up to one of the global leaders in advanced aviation, shaping the future of drone technology, U-space, eVTOL and uncrewed aviation systems (UAS).

In this exclusive Q&A, Eszter Kovács, Murzilli Consulting’s Co-founder and Director of Stakeholder Engagement, as well as Co-founder and CEO of DroneTalks and Aerial Cities, shares what truly defines life at Murzilli Consulting: deep regulatory expertise, hands-on implementation and a culture shaped by real responsibility and ownership.

What Is It Like Working for a Global Leader in Advanced Aviation and Drone Consulting?

Working in the advanced air mobility (AAM) sector means being part of an industry that defines the future of how we move.

When Lorenzo Murzilli and I founded Murzilli Consulting in 2020, urban drone operations, BVLOS logistics and U-space deployment were still largely conceptual across much of Europe. Today, our team of over 40 people, operating across five offices including our newest location in London, actively supports governments, authorities and industry partners in implementing these concepts at scale. In just one year, the team has grown from 24 to 44 people, reflecting both demand for our services and the trust placed in our work.

On a daily basis, we work with civil aviation authorities, ministries, cities and private operators, supporting both strategic design and hands-on implementation. This includes regulatory roadmaps, operational authorisations, airspace and U-space frameworks, certification pathways and safety cases. Having worked with more than 50 industry partners, we bring first-hand operational and regulatory experience into every project.

Examples include supporting the UK Civil Aviation Authority’s Remote ID Strategy, contributing to how drones will safely share UK airspace, and working with the Berlin Senate on U-space Berlin, a multi-year real-world testbed for sustainable urban drone deliveries.

In Spain, we are deeply involved in the Canarias Stratoport for HAPS & UAS, enabling higher-altitude and near-space operations for connectivity, emergency response and environmental monitoring. More recently, our team supported Pirineos Drone in securing Spain’s first operational authorisation for heavy-lift BVLOS logistics using the 95 kg DJI FlyCart 30, enabling real missions in mountainous terrain rather than demonstration flights.

Every day, our team enables stakeholders to take complex regulatory and technical concepts, such as SORA, Remote ID or CE marking for drones; and turn them into approved, operational realities.

This is what defines working at Murzilli Consulting: Taking responsibility for turning technological and regulatory complexity into authorised, operational outcomes.

What Makes Team Murzilli Unique in the Advanced Air Mobility Sector?

Our strength lies in who we are and where we come from.

Murzilli Consulting is built by aviation, regulatory and technology experts, including individuals who have directly contributed to shaping today’s regulatory frameworks. Our CEO and Co-founder, Lorenzo Murzilli, co-developed the Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA) methodology within JARUS WG-6, following his leadership role at the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA). This experience sets the tone across the organisation.

We do not speculate on how authorities might interpret regulation; as many of our team members have been the authorities. Others bring experience from air navigation service providers, aerospace manufacturers, certification bodies and technology developers, including ENAIRE, INECO, EUROCAE, Airbus, Leonardo, GMV and Wingcopter, alongside EASA, FOCA and AESA.

Together with our sister company DroneTalks, we deliver training programmes that do more than explain regulations. We show how to apply them in practice, supported by real-world expertise and technology insight.

Because of this unique mix of regulatory insight, engineering know-how and pragmatic implementation, we are able to deliver projects that define the future of advanced aviation. Whether developing Light UAS Operator (LUC) frameworks for drone operators, designing U-space architectures for regulators, or guiding manufacturers through type certification and CE marking, we provide an end-to-end capability that few organisations can match.

How Does Murzilli Consulting Go Beyond Traditional Consulting?

We are not just drone consultants; we are advanced aviation enablers, and implementation sits at the core of everything we do.

Murzilli Consulting acts as a digital outsourced regulatory and technical department for many of its clients. That means we stay involved from strategy through execution; defining regulatory pathways, preparing documentation, engaging with authorities, responding to findings and supporting approvals through to completion.

Our scope spans uncrewed and crewed aviation, U-space and airspace management, CE Marking, Remote ID, cybersecurity for AAM systems, vertiport strategy and increasingly higher-altitude and near-space operations, including High-Altitude Pseudo-Satellites (HAPS) and hybrid airspace concepts at the boundary between aviation and space.

What sets us apart is that we do not merely advise; we build, execute and deliver. Clients come to us with regulatory, technological or strategic challenges, and we take responsibility for turning those challenges into solutions.

Clients come to us with regulatory uncertainty, certification risk or operational blockers, and we take responsibility for delivering solutions that are defensible, compliant and implementable. This is why many of our projects move beyond pilots and demonstrations into sustained, real-world operations.

How Would You Describe the Murzilli Consulting Work Culture?

Our culture is rooted in unity, expertise and trust. Although our offices are located across Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Hungary and the United Kingdom, Team Murzilli functions as one connected organisation. We maintain close communication across borders, combining Swiss engineering precision with European diversity and creativity.

Murzilli Consulting is guided by five core values that define who we are and how we work: excellence, outcome focus, client focus, ownership and teamwork. We pursue excellence in everything we do, maintaining the highest standards of quality and innovation. We are driven by outcomes, focusing on achieving tangible results for our clients and partners. Our client relationships are built on trust and collaboration, and we take full ownership of every project we deliver. Most importantly, we believe in the power of teamwork, because our success is a collective effort built on diverse strengths and shared ambition.

Beyond daily project work, we place strong emphasis on alignment and cohesion. Our management and senior leadership retreats, held across Europe, focus on strategy, culture and operational discipline. At the same time, our annual team-building events, most recently held in the Canary Islands, bring the wider team together to share expertise, reflect on lessons learned and strengthen collaboration.

We may be a distributed team, but we operate as one unit; united by our mission to make advanced aviation safe, scalable and sustainable.

How Does Murzilli Consulting Support Women in Technology and Aviation?

As one of the few women in a leadership role within the drone and advanced aviation sectors, I see it as my responsibility to use my platform to drive change.

Throughout my career, from my early years as a military-safety engineer and programme manager in the telecommunications industry to co-founding M&K Global AG, which includes Murzilli Consulting and DroneTalks Group; I have seen how much stronger our industry becomes when women are not only present but leading.

At Murzilli Consulting, we actively promote diversity because we know that progress in advanced aviation depends on diverse perspectives. Our culture is built around empowerment, ownership and trust, and that extends to creating opportunities for women to thrive across technical, operational and strategic roles. Every member of our team is encouraged to take initiative, challenge convention and bring new ideas to the table.

For me, leading Murzilli Consulting is not just about guiding an organisation; it’s about helping shape a culture where diversity is seen as a source of strength and where women have equal opportunity to design, implement and lead the future of aviation.

Through initiatives such as DroneTalks and Aerial Cities, I continue to advocate for greater visibility for women in male-dominated industries, fostering a culture where innovation and inclusivity go hand in hand.

What Opportunities Come with Working at Murzilli Consulting?

Working at Murzilli Consulting means being part of a genuinely international team. We bring together 40+ colleagues from 20 nationalities, speaking 16 languages, across 5 offices in Europe; creating a dynamic environment where different perspectives are part of everyday work.

We believe in fast development and real responsibility. Junior team members can grow into senior roles within one to two years if they demonstrate ownership, initiative and impact. Learning happens through hands-on involvement in real projects, close collaboration with senior experts and direct exposure to regulators and industry leaders.

We also make time to celebrate and connect as a team. Each year, we come together for our Team Days, hosted in inspiring locations such as Madrid, Budapest and most recently Tenerife. These gatherings combine strategy sessions, knowledge sharing and recognition of outstanding contributions through dedicated employee awards, while also leaving time to enjoy being together and experience each destination.
