Metron Aviation collects Charles E Varnell Award

Metron Aviation, in partnership with the FAA, developed Flight Schedule Monitor (FSM), the worlds first Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) platform for Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM), and numerous ATFM innovations which have eliminated 54 million minutes of delays, saved 148 million liters of fuel, reduced emissions by over 455 thousand metric tons and lowered operating costs by over U.S. $5 billion. We are honored to receive the Varnell award on behalf of our staff, the people who have contributed to the advancement of the aviation industry for more than 15 years, said Jack Kies, President. This award is a direct reflection of our commitment and service to the FAA, working together to deploy solutions that advance safety and efficiency in our national airspace. Metron Aviations Systems Engineering 2020 team (SE-2020), competing for the primary NextGen research and concept exploration and development contract, under the FAAs SE-2020 initiative, includes three ATCA Charles E. Varnell Memorial Award winners; CSSI (2005 and 2006), Flatirons Solutions (2007) and Metron Aviation (2009). The receipt of such a prestigious award, by multiple small businesses on the Metron Aviation SE-2020 team, underscores the breadth and depth of the industry contribution of the team for advancing National Airspace System (NAS) research and deployment.
