M&K Germany GmbH, dba Murzilli Consulting, the consultancy firm offering 360° services for regulation, technology and strategy for innovative aviation stakeholders, is participating in U-Space Berlin, an innovative real-world laboratory dedicated to advancing drone delivery and multimodal logistics solutions in the German capital. 

On August 25, 2025, Berlin’s Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises, Franziska Giffey, officially launched three innovation testbeds supported by the Berlin Senate. Among them is U-Space Berlin, which will receive funding over the next three years to explore how drones can be integrated into sustainable transport concepts. The initiative will evaluate the technological, social, environmental and economic impacts of drone delivery in a dense urban setting. 

About the Project: A real-world testbed for Berlin’s future mobility 

U-Space Berlinwill establish drone delivery flights in Berlin; testing drone deliveries of goods such as medical supplies and essential items. The project aims to shorten delivery times and expand access to essential items in areas with limited options, while assessing how drones fit into the city’s broader logistics and mobility systems. 

The initiative comes down to how drone delivery can revolutionise logistics, supply chains and local retail in Berlin. Over a three-year testbed, supported by local partners from Berlin and around Germany, U-Space Berlin will explore how drone operations influence technology, society and the environment, including ecological considerations. 

These assessments includecitizen participation in flight route selection, the development of regulatory best practices and the creation of a type-open landing pad that functions like a parcel station. These elements will ensure that future drone services are safe, scalable and accepted by the public.

U-Space Berlin, coordinated by Startup Colors UG, brings together a diverse consortium of partners including Technische Universität Berlin, DiAvEnLabfly UG, marktschwalbe GmbH, Akkon University of Applied Sciences, Luftlabor and Murzilli Consulting / M&K Germany GmbH. This cross-sector collaboration demonstrates Berlin’s unique innovation ecosystem, where academia, startups and industry work hand in hand to tackle pressing mobility challenges.  

U-Space Berlin is one of three real-world laboratories selected by the Berlin Senate for funding, alongside B(e)Ware, which focuses on circular building materials, and IWIQ, which develops solutions for water reuse and heat recovery. Together, these initiatives underline Berlin’s commitment to advancing sustainable, resilientand future-oriented solutions that directly enhance quality of life in the city.
