NATCA praises senators who are pushing for passage of FAA funding bill "without further delay"

Led by Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., a bipartisan group of 35 Senators have sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., calling for passage of the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill (S. 1451) without further delay as an important step in advancing the goal of boosting job creation and economic recovery through infrastructure investment.
The most recent funding authorization bill for the FAA expired on Sept. 30, 2007. It has been extended through short-term bills since that time, even though the House passed its FAA bill on May 21. Wrote the Senators, It is time for us to pass S. 1451. This bill is so important if we are going to take the critical step forward in providing for the safety, stability and growth of our current aviation system and the safe and effective development of our future system, NATCA President Paul Rinaldi said. We salute this group of Senators for their efforts in advancing this process toward the goal that all of us in the aviation community share: the swift passage of S. 1451. Wrote the Senators: The FAA bill will provide additional funding to airports in metropolitan areas, in small cities and in rural areas. It will also provide needed funds and congressional direction for NextGen, which is essential for the future capacity and safety of the aviation system. The bill ensures that we have a safer and more efficient aviation system, and in doing so it will provide good construction and technology jobs.
