NATS extends MoD Gibraltar airport contrat

NATS Services Ltd and the Ministry of Defence have agreed an extension to NATS contract for the provision of air traffic control and other services to the MoD at Gibraltar Airport. The revised contract comes into effect on 1 January 2009 for three years.
NATS won the contract in 2006 and currently provides air navigation services, emergency medical response and bird control services to the MoD for the airport. There has also been close liaison with the MoD over Government of Gibraltar plans for a new terminal and road tunnel under the runway. Juliet Kennedy, Head of NATS airport air traffic control operation, said: This is a particularly gratifying outcome to our negotiations for a contract extension. It demonstrates that in less than two years, we have shown the value of NATS input, not only through the services we provide but also through our expertise and support in response to the forthcoming changes at Gibraltar Airport. Alison Mothersill, NATS Customer Account Manager, Defence, said: This is another important MoD contract won by NATS and follows recent contracts for flight procedures and aeronautical messaging.
