PLANEVISION SYSTEMS launches FLARM ground station with ATC-compatible ASTERIX interface

- Hamburg, Germany.

PLANEVISION SYSTEMS, a provider of ADS-B, FLARM and UAT 19-inch surveillance ground stations has successfully launched its B-FLARM device with an Eurocontrol ASTERIX data interface. The first installation was inaugurated on the premises of a West European ANSP.

FLARM is a surveillance technology invented by FLARM Technology AG, Switzerland, similar to ADS-B. It works on public frequency bands and is a popular and inexpensive anti collision tool for the glider community. More than 40,000 FLARM installations are active worldwide, with an increasing number operating in helicopters, light type aircraft and UAVs, too.

Up to date fusing FLARM data into ATC and industrial GIS applications, that often process radar data according to the ASTERIX data format standard, required costly and individually programmed data converters. With the B-FLARM solution by PLANEVISION SYSTEMS this additional step of conversion is not required anymore. B-FLARM ground stations transmit FLARM data over local or wide area, public or private IP networks, encoded as ASTERIX CAT021 V0.23, V0.26, V1.8 or V2.4.

B-FLARM ground stations are the ideal solution for glider sites, helicopter landing spots or UAV flying areas, that are located close to controlled airports and airspaces. FLARM data from the ground station can be transmitted by WAN to ATC applications at an adjacent controlled airport or center, fused into the existing display software and immediately enhance the situational awareness of local ATC staff.

B-FLARM ground stations are available stand-alone or with an integrated ADS-B receiving module. The FLARM receiving module is comprised of original OEM hardware and firmware and OEM licensed for operation as an approved ground station.

FLARM is a trademark of FLARM Technology AG.
