Rohde & Schwarz to present portfolio for secure and flexible air traffic control in Dubai

- Dubai, United Arab Emirates

The German radiocommunications specialist will present its comprehensive portfolio for enhanced air traffic control (ATC) security at the ATC Global international trade fair in Dubai, UAE. As a highlight, Rohde & Schwarz will demonstrate how its R&S VCS-4G IP-based voice communications system provides a solution for the efficient and failsafe operation of virtual control centers. Another outstanding feature on display will be DSiT (detection of simultaneous transmissions), developed by Rohde & Schwarz for use in stationary VHF/UHF radios.

With its IP-based R&S VCS-4G voice communications system (VCS), the Munich-based electronics group Rohde & Schwarz makes it possible to create virtual control centers. The R&S VCS-4G enables users to reallocate resources according to traffic loads and ensure failsafe air traffic control in an increasingly crowded airspace. Multiple control centers can be interconnected across geographic and organizational borders. The fully voice-over-IP (VoIP) based system is in line with EUROCAE ED-137 B and features a distributed, redundant architecture. In addition to traditional voice communications, a wide range of data applications are also integrated, including video surveillance of previously out-of-view airport areas, weather data and alarm functions. This additional information helps air traffic controllers assess the overall situation and quickly respond to changes.

The tried and tested R&S Series4200 radios from Rohde & Schwarz can detect simultaneous transmissions (DSiT) in air traffic control. The DSiT functionality is software-based, so the radios can be easily upgraded. With this option, Rohde & Schwarz became the first supplier on the market to create a solution for the problem of undetected simultaneous transmissions (USiT). The new DSiT feature uses an innovative algorithm to detect the presence of simultaneous radio calls in a transmission channel. The air traffic controller is then alerted that multiple calls have been received. The problem of undetected simultaneous transmissions was evaluated extensively in cooperation with DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH (German air navigation service provider).

Rohde & Schwarz solutions for optional radio link encryption and for securing relevant data streams between ATC control centers complement the company's system expertise in the field of air traffic management. Products on display in Dubai will also include air navigation T&M equipment, such as the R&S EDS300 DME/pulse analyzer for measuring pulsed terrestrial signals and the portable R&S EVS300 ILS/VOR analyzer for ground and flight inspection on landing systems.

Rohde & Schwarz will present its broad range of ATC and air navigation solutions at ATC Global 2015 in Dubai, UAE from October 5 to 7, 2015. Visit us at the Dubai World Trade Center, hall 6, booth 6512.
