Saab Sensis Wide Area Multilateration Technologies Selected to Improve Kyrgyz Republic Air Traffic Safety

The United States Air Force Electronic System Center (ESC) has selected defense and security company Saab subsidiary Saab Sensis Wide Area Multilateration (WAM) as the air traffic control sensor solution for the modernization of air traffic management systems within the Kyrgyz Republic. Saab Sensis is a member of the Raytheon Company team that won the competitive procurement.
Saab Sensis WAM will provide modern air traffic control coverage throughout the Kyrgyz Republic. Through the incorporation of multiple low-maintenance, non-rotating sensors to triangulate aircraft locations based on transponder signals, air traffic controllers will now be afforded precise aircraft position and identification information regardless of weather conditions. With a higher update rate and greater positional accuracy than traditional radar, Saab Sensis multilateration provides effective observation for increased safety, capacity and efficiency of the Kyrgyz Republic airspace. By employing advanced processing techniques, a Saab Sensis multilateration system uses the minimal number of sensors for a less complex, lower lifecycle cost solution. Additionally, each multilateration sensor deployed by Saab Sensis supports ADS-B, providing an infrastructure that is ready for todays airspace management needs and tomorrows avionics.

The Air Force project further demonstrates Saab Sensis as the WAM provider of choice to the industrys most demanding applications said David Kovarik, vice president of Saab Sensis. This project affords us another opportunity to demonstrate the close partnership between Saab Sensis and Raytheon, again bringing value to the Air Force within a highly challenging mission environment."

In addition to providing modern air traffic control capabilities to the Kyrgyz Republic, this project also marks the first provision of WAM technologies via the U.S. Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program. The contracting authority is the U.S. Air Force Electronics Systems Center, Hanscom Air Force Base, Ma.

Approximately 100 sites worldwide have chosen Saab Sensis multilateration to enhance safety, efficiency, capacity and cost savings including nationwide WAM systems for Austria and Sweden.

Saab Sensis Corporation provides the defense and aviation markets with advanced sensor technologies, next-generation radars, automation, modeling and simulation solutions. The company serves military, civil aviation, airport and airline customers in more than 35 countries across six continents.
