Saab upgrades the Swedish Armed Forces airbases and mobile towers with the i-TWR system

Saabs i-TWR system is a modern integrated air traffic tower solution. It provides the air traffic controller with a fully integrated work station where all systems can be accessed from only one or two displays a more effective and flexible working environment.
We are pleased that the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration, FMV, has chosen Saabs i-TWR system to meet the Swedish Air Forces requirements for modern ATM functionality. We will now develop the system to suit their current and future needs and demands, says Per Ahl, Director of Sales, Air Traffic Management, Saab Security. This is an important step for the deployment of our tower systems in general and a very good reference for our i-TWR system in particular. i-TWR provides integration by enabling a number of functions to be managed within a single operating position where the number of displays can be kept to a minimum. Head-down time is shortened and situational awareness is improved. State of the art for the air traffic controller We have a very advanced Swedish Air Force with the Gripen fighter and now we will also have state of the art technology on the ground for the air traffic controller. We are convinced that the Saab i-TWR system will fulfil our requirements for flexibility and reduced costs, says Örjan Johansson FMV Project Manager ATM. This is a platform for future tower solutions. The process can be compared with what has already taken place in the aircraft cockpit, going from analogue systems to the integrated display systems Saab offers its customers, says Per Ahl.
