Searidge Powers Spain’s First Regulator-Certified Digital Control Tower at Vigo Airport

The operational launch places Spain among leading aviation hubs embracing digital tower technology and digital transformation worldwide.

Searidge Technologies is proud to announce a major milestone in the advancement of air traffic management in Spain. The digital control tower at Vigo Airport is now operational, making it the first airport in the country to transition to fully digital tower operations. The system, delivered through a joint venture with Searidge and Skyway, has been successfully certified by Spanish aviation regulators and is now being used to provide air traffic control services.

Located in a building adjacent to the airport, the new operations center is equipped with advanced camera and sensor technology, the digital tower replaces the traditional out-the-window view with a high-resolution, 360° real-time visual display. This includes fixed and mobile HD camera and real-time sensor data—offering controllers enhanced visibility, improved situational awareness, and greater operational safety.

“We’re proud to support Aena in achieving this important milestone,” said Moodie Cheikh, CEO of Searidge Technologies. “The operational launch at Vigo marks a first for Spain and underscores Europe’s leadership in digital tower innovation. We look forward to continuing our collaboration as Aena advances its strategy to digitize and future-proof airport operations across the country.”

Initial operations at Vigo Airport will be conducted during low-traffic hours, with a conventional tower controller on standby to ensure a smooth and secure transition. This phased approach underscores the commitment of all stakeholders to operational safety and excellence.

Vigo Airport joins an elite group of early adopters leading the global shift to digital tower technology—alongside major hubs like Hong Kong, Heathrow, Changi, Dubai, and Hamad International Airports.
