SELEX Sistemi Integrati for the first time ever in Australia with its defence systems
SELEX Sistemi Integrati, a Fimeccanica company, was awarded a contract by the Australian Defence Force Tactical Data Link Authority to supply three Multi Data Link Processors (MDL-P).
The contract, acquired in the frame of the LINK22 trial project, will last six months and will allow the integration with the Link11 and Link22 capability modems delivered by DRS, the Finmeccanica totally owned American company.
For SELEX Sistemi Integrati this is the first contract ever signed in Australia for the delivery of electronic systems for defence, even if, starting from the Eightiees, the Finmeccanica company was already present with its air traffic control systems.
This is why the supply has a strategic importance. In fact it will allow SELEX Sistemi Integratis defence electronics offer to be known in Australia and the MDL-P appreciated as a product of excellence also in view of the a 100 million dollar bid, which will be issued within 2012 by the Australian Defence Force to acquire tactical communication systems.
SELEX Sistemi Integrati MDL-P has been developed during the last ten years to offer the capability of managing, in a simplified and automatic way, several kinds of tactical links which today allow military naval, land and avionic platforms to exchange data, coming from the sensors onboard, and information relevant to one s own position and weapons in real time.
The product supplies a common solution, which is interoperable and scalable for any kind of platform.
Besides allowing a complete configurability of the most important tactical links in use within the military world, the MDL-P can be integrated with any command and control system already in use through an integration interface, the Common Host Interface, so featuring a key element for net-centric architectures.
SELEX Sistemi Integratis MDL-P was recently sold to the Finnish Military Navy (naval version) and previously acquired by all the Italian Armed Forces, in every type of configuration.
Today MDL-P systems are in use on the Italian Military Navys aircraft carrier Cavour and on the FREMM frigates and are installed in several sites belonging to the Italian Military Air Force.
The system was also provided for the NATO ALTBMD (Active Layered Theatre Ballistic Missile Defence) programme for the IP communication components within the ballistic NATO defence.
