IRINA2 project ready for take-off

On 1 September, colleagues and partners will gather at EUROCONTROL HQ in Brussels for the official IRINA2 Kick-off Meeting.

IRINA2 develops air traffic management solutions to enable safe and efficient integration of remotely piloted aircraft systems into both ATC-separated and non-ATC-separated airspaces, focusing on airspace classes D, E and G. It uses coordinated conflict management combining onboard detect-and-avoid systems and air traffic control, when available, supporting high- and low-performance platforms including fixed-wing, rotary-wing and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

The project defines and validates procedures for air traffic control and remote pilots, covering nominal and non-nominal situations, and develops low-size, weight and power surveillance sensors to detect non-cooperative traffic. IRINA2 also supports airworthiness validation, performance modelling, cross-border operations, and civil–military coordination, while contributing to regulatory and standardisation work with EASA and ICAO.

Over the next three years, IRINA2 will bring together brilliant minds, ambitious goals, and plenty of collaboration.

The IRINA2 project follows on from the IRINA project which ran for 3 years from June 2023 to it's completion end May 2026.
