Successful Training at Punta Arenas (Chile)

- Milan, Italy.

The Chilean ANSP (Air Navigation Service Provider), DGAC (Dirección General de Aeronautica Civil), awarded SITTI the supply of new VCSs (Voice Communication Systems) to increase and modernize their air traffic control capacity. Most recently, new VCS systems have been provided for installation at Punta Arenas airport (Presidente Carlos Ibañez del Campo), at the DGAC laboratory and at the Aeródromo Teniente Marsh on an island close to Antarctica.

During November, SITTI taught a training course to the DGAC personnel in Punta Arenas. Several technical people participated in the course held be Emanuele Sala, senior SITTI expert trainer, on the main facilities provided by the VCS system. During the two-week lessons, it was possible to have hands-on the system and to verify the many features provided by the overall architecture.

Different configuration facilities have been shown to the trainees, with the intent of providing them with all the knowledge needed to properly tackle possible future requests of system configuration changes and solve possible problems that may arise when using the system.

Radio, telephone, intercom and interconnection facilities have been explored and deeply analysed and described, with practical sessions aiming at giving the local staff the proper confidence with the system and its potential, not forgetting possible future extensions to the current configuration, should there be the need of adding and/or reconfiguring new links and connections.

The training course was successfully completed with full satisfaction of the interested people. SITTI will continuously follow the evolution of the installed system, by also providing remote support for any possible issue or additional feature that DGAC may realize.
