Drones also observed near Deurne and Ostend airports
Flight operations briefly suspended following report of possible drone activity
On Saturday evening, shortly before 8 p.m., a possible drone sighting was reported in the immediate vicinity of Deurne Airport. This notification had no impact on our operations, which continued as normal.
By contrast, on Friday evening at around 7:30 p.m., a suspected drone was reported over the airport site in Ostend. As a precautionary measure, skeyes decided to temporarily suspend air operations. At the same time, the pilot of an aircraft on approach reported that the aircraft had been targeted by a laser beam. The aircraft was nonetheless able to land safely.
In order to ensure safety while awaiting further clarification, air traffic controllers in Ostend decided not to authorize any take-offs or landings for a short period. After approximately 20 minutes, operations were able to resume safely.
Skeyes emphasizes that air safety was never compromised. Both airports remained open at all times and scheduled traffic was not affected.
A report has been filed with the police regarding both incidents.
