SkeyDrone kicks off festival season
This weekend, SkeyDrone is kicking off the festival season with the first implementation of our EventWatch solution this summer.
In recent years, local police authorities typically took the lead in deploying temporary drone detection solutions to safeguard large-scale festivals. This year, that responsibility has shifted towards event organisers as part of their broader safety and security planning, carried out in close collaboration with local authorities.
This shift is driven by a more structured, risk-based approach. Organisers are required to conduct comprehensive risk assessments, including the potential impact of drones. When drone-related risks are assessed as limited, primarily involving regulatory breaches, the responsibility for monitoring the lower airspace lies with the organiser. In contrast, when more complex or higher-risk scenarios are identified, the police take the lead.
Even when organisers are responsible for monitoring drone activity, close coordination with authorities remains essential. Real-time data must be shared with the Gold Commander, as only the police have the legal authority to intervene when required.
This evolving model requires more than just detection, it demands actionable insight. That is why SkeyDrone’s EventWatch solution applies the DITTA™ methodology, transforming raw drone data into clear, prioritised and actionable intelligence for event teams and authorities.
SkeyDrone supports organisers in this new reality with a proven, operationally ready solution for drone monitoring at large-scale events. By combining advanced detection technologies with intelligent data processing, the platform delivers real-time visibility into drone activity in and around the festival area. It filters out irrelevant signals, prioritises potential threats, and translates complex data into clear, actionable insights for on-site teams.
“Festival organisers don’t need more data, they need clarity and confidence in their decision-making,” says Stijn De Vleeschhouwer, Managing Director at SkeyDrone. “Our platform is designed to turn fragmented drone signals into a real-time operational picture that both organisers and authorities can act on immediately.”
With extensive experience in securing complex environments, SkeyDrone is proud to support festival organisers this summer in delivering safe, compliant, and resilient events. Learn more about our EventWatch solution here.
